Inspired by the pestering in the monster thread, What is a close relationship to you?  Is there any such thing as being too close?  Are you close to your spouse/so?  Your children?  Your parents?  Your friends?  Is there an ideal image of close..  If so what does that look like?

I know, Lots of questions...  Play or pass..

Ditto, again.

I would think those are pretty casual and social, they are pretty fluffy.

I would think that would be the same with many if not most relationships.  You have said this a couple of times now, do you think close only means knowing every detail?

Nope and that is why I would say my sibling and I are close but we don't know every detail that goes on in our lives, even things we are doing to our homes.

I don't even know every detail in my life some of the time, lol....let alone know it in anyone else.  I'm not sure why you keep repeating the whole, "knowing every detail" thing, who knows every detail of anyone's life?   Or who wants to know every detail?

You compared to being close by knowing when your family member would be remodeling their home. To me, that IS considered "knowing every detail", especially when you don't live with them.

But it's not, knowing that a sibling is remodeling their home is only one detail of someone's life, not every detail.  Why do you think knowing one thing means every thing?

I see my sib at least once a month, usually once a week. A remodel would come up in normal discourse. We're pretty close now, but we've had periods when we've not been close; he moved once and I did not know for 6 months or so.

Yes, it IS one detail. So why would you think I should know THAT one detail? According to you, you are close to your family so you would. Why would you assume everyone close to their family would?

"I'm close to my immediate family, I wouildn't find out after the fact that they remodeled a room in their home for example. I'm sorry that you are not close to your family."

blackandwhitemolly:

A remodel is not not a little detail if you live in close proximity. I visit my brother's house at least 2 times a month. He live 25mi from me, I'd notice a remod, except in bedrooms or private baths, but I'm sure he'd mention it.
