A school district in MA is considering offering condoms to students as young as 12, they are seeing sexual activity, STDs and pregnancy affecting kids even at this age.

Both parents and schools can educate the kids about sex and prevention, but it shouldn't be the school's responsibility to provide condoms. I find it sad that the school has to take on this responsibility.

If they need them, they need them, but I think it is an absolute crime that immature children are feeling pressure to have sex. I don't care how precocious they are, if a 12 year old has sex, it's because that child thinks he or she "has" to for some reason. Sure, they have urges, but they are not mature enough to engage in this kind of relationship and at the very least, I hope the adults in their lives (any adult!) are addressing the psychological roots of the problem and not just trying to prevent the physical consequences.

Exactly!

I'm pretty sure of my opinion :) They should be focusing more on what is making these kids feel the need to have sex at such a young age. Condoms are dealing with the problem after the fact, the parents and school need to be engaging the kids on why they feel the need to have sex in the first place.

How about I see prevention as preventing them from having sex in the first place.

Part of the reason why schools are not allowed to dispense medications without writen documentation from the parents and/or doctor is because of law suits.

I couldn't agree more. And I don't get why kids that young NEED to be in a relationship either, My kids' friend is an example of this and she gets all worked up if she isn't dating a boy, Why? And where do those pressures come from? (asked by a mother who didn't seriously date until college, Lol..)

When I was in 7th grade, the girl with the locker next to mine was pregnant-- at 13. @@

I agree with you but schools take this on for a lot of the same reasons they take on other social issues too.. Because home isn't dealing with it.

That's great that you are sure of your opinion, it just didn't sound like it.

I agree with you - in a perfect world. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world, and if the school doesn't step in to provide things that parents can't - or won't - then there is a whole segment of the population going without some very important things.

Again, you're being contradictory. It's the school's responsibility to find out what's making the kids feel they need sex, but not the school's responsibility to provide condoms?
