A school district in MA is considering offering condoms to students as young as 12, they are seeing sexual activity, STDs and pregnancy affecting kids even at this age.

IME, the funding for these things is not coming out of the same pot as traditional education funding. I don't think it's cannibilizing other programs.

That said, I agree - in theory - that this is something that should be left to the parents. Unfortunately, there is a large number of parents out there that are not capable or willing to do it. Those children *need* the "experts".

I also agree that there are some big problems with our educational system. But I do not think that providing condoms in any way contributes to those problems.

It hasn't but I still don't think it's logical to think that a school could be sued for the misuse of a condom or breakage.

IME, the funding for those types of programs (condoms, sex education, etc) do not come out of the general education budget.

Not that it's likely to happen often, but there are people allergic to the materials some condoms are made with.

A gross of condoms is about $50. How many does a middle school need?

You think the price of condoms is the issue? Because that's what you asked. I think middle schooler's routinely engaging in sex is going to be a much more expensive social issue to solve than the price of condoms.

Are you ok with kids engaging in sex on school premises too? Because IMO, That is exactly the message conveyed if schools dispense condoms... And we, as a society already deal with a lot of social issues so I don't know what point you're trying to make there, I object to schools passing out condoms to 12 YOs.
