A school district in MA is considering offering condoms to students as young as 12, they are seeing sexual activity, STDs and pregnancy affecting kids even at this age.

The school should quit passing out condoms and institute a no-hugging policy, which should solve the problem, don't you think? @@

I think that some kids are engaging in sex at 12yo. I think it is a shame. The most inexpensive method is to insure they the kids are safe from stds and pregnancy is to provide condoms. The much more complex problem is how to combat poverty and neglect in under served communities.

Our middle school foundation purchases band instruments so that over half the middle schoolers participate in the school band. My brother's school, a teacher in a swiftly declining high school district, invests in a on site daycare so that the babies of these babies can get their hs diploma.

I object to your willful blindness that condoms are a problem.

And there is poverty in my kids' schools too, Young girls are pg and young girls and boys are products of parents who never finished high school, You better believe I promote keeping kids in school, Making sure there is equal opportuny for every single one of them to succeed too.....

I am truly outraged by Conservative pollyannaism. If we wish it to be so, it surely will be. No empathy, no complex choices, no understanding of lives lived in anything but platitudes. Ignorance, er yeah...how about that.

Show me the logistics here.. Will a child will feel comfortable asking school for a condom? And further, Where will kids get

Do YOU know any middle schoolers having sex? I don't think they're the ones that are having problems with logistics. I don't live in those communities, but I know they exist. Treat these kids with a band aid, e.g. condoms so that kids don't give birth to more under priviledged kids, then treat the underlying disease of poverty and neglect with education.

Yes, that's why I said your view was Conservative pollyannism; you don't want to believe any reality but the one you experience. Many conservatives are much more cynical.

Yes, good luck with that.

Actually, I'm not sure that your statement is accurate.

Hey, maybe we should go to single-sex schools. That would do it.

but it is. It is. Why don't you want to hear the truth?

Schools aren't encouraging risky behavior; they're reacting to the risky behavior children are already engaged in.
