Or what about classes? Our local vocational school offers a pastry making/cake decorating class. And I think Michael's has cake decorating classes as well.

Oh, I could spend hours in Willams-Sonoma or Sur La Table - I love kitchen gadgets!

We have a bread machine and honestly, I'm not a big fan.

Nope, all you need for bread is water, salt, yeast and flour. It is pretty easy too.

A good quality food processor with attachments is a really nice thing. Among other things, I make coleslaw on mine and other grated/sliced salads. It is also great for slicing potatoes thinly or grating them for latkes.

The kids got dh an immersion blender last year...I'm the one that uses it, lol. But I love it. My new favorite use for it is to puree pumpkin.

I'm reallly hoping that MIL's gift to DH is a food processor! We have a mini one that we LOVE! I used it to make all YDS' baby food. (See, I guess I'm not *totally* useless in the kitchen.) ;)
