I read this story today but didn't see the photo until now. I too thought of Michael Jackson dangling the baby. I'll be interested to see what fallout he gets from this. I like the guy well enough and my 4 year old LOVES the croc files shows for younger kids...but this just took a HUGE chunk outta my admiration for him. As if a croc knows the diff between a dead chicken and an infant!!!!

Sheesh! Can anybody explain how this is not worse than MJ holding his baby over the balcony? Talk about ridiculously stupid!

You know what this reminds me of? That Las Vegas performer (name escapes me) who got badly mauled by the tiger he'd worked with for years and years. I think this guy has fallen for the same fallacy that the Las Vegas performers fell for. They think that if they are trained and experienced and have worked with dangerous animals for years then they are in complete control of the situation. Nothing happened to the baby THIS TIME, but nothing happened to the two tiger tamers the first 500 times they did the show either. Maybe the tiger attack survivor can talk some sense into him.

This is how i see it also. i really think steve irwin is an intellegent person who has a "sixth sense" with animals, however, *all* animals are unpredictable, and just because he has never had a life threatening incident with this type of alligator/crocodile, doesnt mean he cant. what if the animal attacked him forcing the baby to fall? i hate to think about it.

I caught the tail end of a story on the news about this last night - charges have been filed against him (I'm guessing for endangerment) and he was responding. His take is that he would be irresponsible not to familiarize his children with crocodile behavior, given where and how they live.

I'm thinking one month old is a bit early for that kind of instruction.

Thanks, I hadn't seen any follow up to this.

Of course he felt it was only responsible of him as a parent. That's why he showboated it on his TV show. :)~

I hate to say it, but I think it's worse than what Michael Jackson did. (I hate to say that because I think MJ is a freak!) MJ was doing it on the spur of the moment, and then after a minute had an "oh my God, what am I doing revelation" and pulled the baby back in. Croc guy planned this, advertised it, doesn't see anything wrong with it & is defending it. I also saw a blurb a few days ago about it, where he was holding the baby upright on the ground & walked him around like he was a doll. I couldn't see how close to the crocodile this was though.
