In an effort to make food in schools healthier, some school districts have actually banned cupcakes at school birthday celebrations.

Thanks for that bit. I never thought I'd see something that would make a box of Domino refined white pure cane sugar look like the healthier choice, but bygod this is it. Baking like it's 1949 does seem like the safer alternative for sugaring up our kids when theres a celebration that calls for dessert.

This does a nice job of explaining why it's suddenly EVERYWHERE and junk food is so cheap. I'll spend the extra bucks to avoid it (and it does seem to cost more to avoid it). When I read about this months ago (and forgot the science) it was in an article exploring a sudden upswing in obesity since it came on the market and wondering if it was even more at fault than trans fats (which are getting all the bad press right now).

How about I bring some homemade wine and you and I will watch them make cupcakes?

There's even more to it (or less, if you prefer). When I went to www.peapod.com to explore, it turns out that the higher number of sugar grams is because the serving size is larger. For some reason, Juicy Juice makes 200ml juice boxes (25 grams of sugar for this flavor) but calls a serving size 240ml when it's from the bottle. So Capri Sun appears to have less sugar (27-28 grams for a similar flavor) but only if you compare unequal volumes. If you compare equal volumes (200 ml serving size for the juice box of both), Juicy Juice has less sugar than Capri Sun. You need to pour another 40ml of Juicy Juice to get up to 28 grams of sugar.

My favorite cookbook. Everything I have ever made out of it has been fabulous. Although I've never tried chicken livers. (I'm sure it would be yummy to people who like them!) I'm on my third copy, I wreck the suckers. My mom has hers from the 70s and her mother's from the 50s. I had one from the mid 90s, which I didn't like much, but the version that just came out is so close to the 70s version that I heart it.
