In an effort to make food in schools healthier, some school districts have actually banned cupcakes at school birthday celebrations.

Well, I probably wouldn't give a two year old soda of any kind, but if it had to be one or the other, diet or regular, I'd choose diet. I guess I am missing the benefit of giving a kid high fat foods as a toddler.

I knew there had to be a reason.

I'd get knocked up again to prevent such an occurrence in the future, but I'd probably still get disqualified because my first child was too hold for his experiences to count and the new kid wasn't in school yet. :::eyeroll and wink:::

I like the basics too, like sauces. Although, if there is anything traditional that I want to make, I look there first, because I've never had anything turn out bad. (Not so much with other sources!) As for chicken livers... I'm sure they taste fine. It's just that I know what a liver is for, and the idea of eating them is so icky to me that it overshadows any possible yumminess.

You're going to die... I'm working on my degree in accounting. It's just that I'm in a general ed biology class right now (I put if off as long as possible) and it's really interesting to me so it's fresh in my mind and I've been doing additional research for fun.

So don't go asking me about valence shells or anything... LOL

I think the benefit to high fat foods as a toddler is that fat is something they use to grow. With the caveat that it be naturally occuring fat like that which is found in whole fat dairy products. I'm advocating full fat yogurt (Stoneyfield Farmmakes a good one) not McDonalds. The pediatrician told me this for dd. She said she'd seen a lot of health conscious parents be too sparse with the fat for their toddlers- giving the toddlers the same very low fat foods they ate to control middle aged cholesterol. I live in an upper middle class, crunchy and health conscious area so I guess that was what she saw a lot of in her practice.(And to be honest, it's likely a large number of the parents in her practice were middle aged like me, not early 20's.) And to tell the truth I was going to give dd the same skim milk I got for dh and myself until she told me to buy the 2% or whole milk for her.

Accounting! Well, I didn't see that coming. But you have a good handle on the biology of metabolism so I figure you'll do well in the class.

Just an aside, when I was in 4th grade (circa 1985) I was 4'11" and 115. I was BY FAR the biggest and fattest kid in my class.

I am in no way calling your child fat....just pointing out that times have certainly changed. I look back at my old pictures and remember the ridicule and rejection I faced daily by being the "fat kid" and I think, man, I'd be downright normal these days!
