In an effort to make food in schools healthier, some school districts have actually banned cupcakes at school birthday celebrations.

Everyone needs exercise for overall health, of course. But, you do not *truly* need to exercise to lose weight. I lost approx. 40 pounds on WW without much exercise. I'd say it's about 80/20. 80 diet, 20 exercise. A couple of my girlfriends (PTs at the gym) will admit the same thing but say, "Don't tell anyone." ;)

Us too, but that's a tough one because they hear it on the radio. I listen to local radio in the mornings and it's always, "He said a bad word, mama!"

I know, I know....

Yeah, I agree. I don't like it when I hear that it was "so and sos" b-day that day and they already had a cookie/treat/whatever as daddy is handing them a piece of chocolate from his goody jar at work.

So, I combat this with a healthy breakfast and no treats in their lunch boxes, ever. Just a fruit, a water a sandwich and a yogurt. Bo-ring, but they always seem to get some sort of a "treat" in the day.

Ugh, she sounds like me, the poor kid.

I always wanted to eat just "normally" you know? Seemed like everyone else was eating junk. And they were. When I think back, we had the cleanest house on the block, food-wise. Limited sweets, no white bread, one 1/2 gallon of ice cream in the house for the week and once that was gone, no other treats allowed.

But I was still a chubby kid. As an adult, I work very hard at remaining fairly fit, but I am in no way skinny and it is in no way *easy*. I'm 5'7" and about 155. A size 10. If I stop eating right for a week or two, I feel it in my pants immediately. And nothing ruins my day faster than a tight pair of pants.

It's all in the genes. I come from a long line of sorta-chubbs.

Yuck! I don't think any kid should be drinking any soda & the stuff that is in diet soda is not any better for you. They are way better off drinking water/milk/juice.

But you do need to exercise to be healthy. I don't diet, but I find that if I don't exercise, I feel really awful. My DD was told by her doctor that she needs to exercise daily (which she doesn't) and she's not remotely overweight. This has nothing to do with her weight, but with a lifelong healthy habit.

I don't see the big deal either. There's not much evidence to suggest that sugar is some kind of demon. People get fat because they eat too much and exercise too little. Period.

Yep. It's not always right after a meal. Frequently, I'll have lunch and then around 3, have tea and a small sweet. We all have dessert after dinner, assuming our diet has been balanced. I really don't think sugar is that big a deal. More likely, our nation's fat problem is caused by a variety of factors, of which sugar is only one.
