"If you weren't disciplined about what you ate but continued to exercise regularly, you would simply lose weight at age 41?"
I'm 41 and I know if I'm undisciplined about my diet but still keep to my 4-5 day aweek workouts (6-7 in training season) I will MAINTAIN my weight. BARELY.
If I miss a week fo workouts I will instantly notice it in my clothes. That's how I'm wired. Everyone is wired differently but my daughter is wired like me so I'll pass on the extra 30 cupcakes a year for her thank you... ;-)

You make valid points of course-- what I was taking issue with is the blanket 'fat people are fat b/c it's they're own fault' kind of flippancy that 1) is not 100% accurate in many cases (and very accurate in others to be sure, don't get me wrong) and 2) is the kind of remark that you hear over and over and over again when you're heavy -- 'oh for gosh sakes just don't eat so much silly! now where's my extra large fries...oh great mmmmm I love these fries ...how are those carrot sticks?"
good times....
