In an effort to make food in schools healthier, some school districts have actually banned cupcakes at school birthday celebrations.

My dd's school has a ban on all party food because of allergies. They also say the pledge of allegience every morning and play tag at recess. These policies don't come bundled and the presence of one policy does not imply the presence of another.

I figure a game can't be that much fun if kids don't play it unless grownups tell them to. When grownups aren't calling the shots kids will play pick-up games of football, baseball, soccer, hockey. Have kids EVER played a pick-up game of dodgeball?

they did when I was in fourth grade -- I have vivid memories of that brick wall of the school and being on the playground at recess and fearing for my life.... :-)

" IF we have soooooo much energy to ban cupcakes in schools why can't we channel that in to the food industry? I am just saying it is displaced frustration."

Ok wild guess here, but parents have more influence in a school district setting. You can go to a school board meeting or pta meeting & a few parents can influence change. But you suggested we ask corporations not to use the bad stuff in food & make foods healthier?????? Come on, they don't have to, the bad stuff is cheaper so they aren't going to change anything unless someone makes them. So you could write your legislator about your concern about foods, but unfortunately you probably won't get very far there either. Maybe a bland response back from a peon that Senator or Representative So&so agrees that is an important concern.

Someone can be overweight as far as what they are comfortable with, and still have a normal weight per national health standards/BMI. I am not overweight but have used WW to lose that creeping 10-15lbs that seems to always catch up to me. Part of the reason I am NOT overweight is because when I do gain a bit of weight, I diet and get it off right away.

Are you really concerned about people who have deathly food allergies? As in you want to find out why? Or you just don't want to have to hear about others' food allergies or be inconvenienced by them.?
