I've been thinking about the recent discussion about "opinions" and the Imus case comes to mind as an example, an extreme example for sure...but an example none the less.
Here's a link to one of the many stories about this issue

So is it true, if someone

Again I disagree. Instead of being a victim of words I tend to fire back. It usually shuts morons like Imus up."
That's irrelevant. Just because you can "shut up" a racist, doesnt mean it wasnt a racist comment. If someone swears at you, and you swear back, that doesnt mean that they didnt use a profanity.
" I have read the definition of racist...his comments do NOT fit that definition. If you think they were racist then fine. I dont think your feelings are wrong or invalid, I just disagree that his words fit the definition of racist."
Well luckily the folks who run the station, all the advertisers, and most all the people I've heard comment on this, disagree with you.
"I havent heard of 1/2 these words but will bet they are on many rap cd's. Not to mention I dont see nappy headed ho in that list."
Why would you think they are on many rap cd's and....why would that matter? Again irrelevant. There are plenty of racist terms on rap cd's.

Totally incorrect. So let me clarify this for you since it seems difficult for you to grasp. Your assessment of what I am saying is way off.
<<>>
Talk about trying to redirect the argument. We move on to personal attacks.
<<>>
Please do tell me how your children's debate tactics would apply here? Your children debate you? Interesting.
<<>>
Doesnt change what I said at all.
<<>>
I believe also your statement singled out young black males.
<<>>
Please show me the post were I wouldn't concede to YOU making the statement of racial slur.
<<>>
No I believe you have consistently called what he said RACIST.
Post 316 If you still do not understand why the comment was racist, please ask. I will continue to try explain it until you do.
Post 423 I have demonstrated that Imus statements were racist and how others have called him on them.
Post 440 Did Imus make racist comments against the Rutgers basketball team? I believe I have amply demonstrated that he did.
Post 458 He got caught making racists comments and held accountable. He expected to get a pass like the dozens of other racists, sexist, and homophobic statements he had made in the past on his radio show.
<<< He deserved to be called on it, he needed to apologize to the women he offended, and he ultimately lost his job for it.>>>
Yes he did. Yes he did. Sad but he did.
<<>>
That is hilarious. I find this just odd when people say this. A word is either offensive, racial, etc or it isnt. If you condemn those that use that word it is very hypocritical to use it yourself.
<<>>
This isnt how I see it at all. I see it as I can but yout cant. Again hypocritical.
<<>>
Oh so in your scenerio it is better to play victim? I personally dont take that role on. I do my very best to put someone that is rude or nasty in their place by making sure they know what they say is obnoxious. Playing the victim accomplishes nothing.
<<>
If there had been no media hype those people would have cared less what he said. Those same advertisers will be running their ads during his show when he moves over to satellite radio. Every poll conducted that I have seen has the public disagreeing with the firing of Imus.
<<>>
I think it is hypocritical to complain about an old white man saying something yet you give a pass to your favorite rapper for an equally derogative term.

Here's an article that explains what I mean better than I can.

But many African Americans agree with you and think it is terrible that so many young black people use this word. On the other hand, if you look at the word "queer," it has become a word used by people in both the gay and straight communities in a positive way-- for example, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy or papers written on "queer culture" in academia.
<<You asked me if I knew what went on in your son'e elementary school which implied to me that "jokes about physical appearance" don't happen there. >>
Yes, yes I did, after you asked if my children went to school as a reply to my comments that my children weren't used to hearing jokes about physical appearance.
PumpkinAngel
<<My comments were related to more than that one post. Honestly, I don't really care to discuss this anymore. You see blonde jokes as making fun of blondes based on appearance and I don't see it that way at all. >>
Yes, which I have all read.
PumpkinAngel
No, that is not what I stated.
