I've been thinking about the recent discussion about "opinions" and the Imus case comes to mind as an example, an extreme example for sure...but an example none the less.

I have super curly, kinky hair too. I have never had it described as "nappy". That is a derogatory term to describe African American hair.

Life is too serious. We have to laugh sometimes. I like to laugh at myself.

Fine. You don't think it is derogatory. But for most of the rest of the US population, it is considered a slur when used in that context. I have a feeling the Oxford English Dictionary doesn't just select words at random to include "US Slang (derogatory)" in the definition.

Do whatever you feel like. Whether your hair stylist calls your hair nappy or not does nothing to change the connotations of that word, especially when it is used as part of an insult.

Yeah-- I remember chanting something similar. I know it was boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider, but I can remember what we said about girls-- I think it was another planet . . . Girls go to mecury? mars?

I think it's kind of ironic that girls would call a boy stupid while using poor grammar.

I think that's part of what is supposed to make it funny . . .

Quite the convincing argument you've got there.

I wouldn't think that generally, elementary age kids would get that kind of humor.

I don't know-- kids learn pretty intuitively when to use -er and when to use more . . . By 3rd or 4th grade, I would think they should recognize that "more stupider" is grammatically incorrect. Or if nothing else that it doesn't sound right.
