I've been thinking about the recent discussion about "opinions" and the Imus case comes to mind as an example, an extreme example for sure...but an example none the less.

So now calling someone a nappy-headed ho isn't even an insult?

I was not talking about understanding the grammatical error. I was talking about understanding irony. I also thought edg's kids were younger than 3rd -4th grade.

You don't have to. I don't recall directing that comment to you.

You don't think calling someone stupid while using bad grammar wouldn't be funny (ironic) to an elementary-aged kid? She probably doesn't get that it's irony, I'll give you that. I remember chanting this in about 3rd--4th grade. . . I have no idea how old egd's kids are.

It's not derrogatory to you because you are not African American. That expression was used before African American's had equal rights. It was used in a derrogatory fashion. It certainly wasn't meant to be complimentary.

I have never heard anyone describe a white person as nappy headed.

I think a child in elementary school would be quoting things like that to imply that the opposite sex is stupid. Young girls often do think boys are stupid and vice versa.

I guess it probably depends on the girl . . .
