Since apparently the poster to whom I asked these questions to didn't really want to debate, maybe the rest of you would be interested.

I will be more specific.

To me, faith is a deeply personal relationship between a person and their God.

Church is a tool used, to help facilitate one's faith.

I don't know that I think of church as a tool to be used, I think of church to be more the root of my faith or rather what happens at church to be the root of my faith.

why does what others do influence your own reasons for not going to church?

The same reason why what others do influence people going to church, I think.

that's cute, when my DS was little he measured how long mass was by asking me how many songs were left, i'd put up two or three fingers and by the end of mass, i would naturally show him just one, Lol..there's something powerful about on eagles wings, i want it sung at my funeral!

Ah huh, I am amazed that ANYONE has longer songs than the Methodists. By the time I set done singing all the verses of "The Church's One Foundation" I feel like I have taught an entire semester's course in church history.

Maybe saying that it's a tool to be used was a poor choice of words, lol.

I love my church, and I think that it's an important piece of my faith. I think that God uses the church in powerful ways.

But, imo, church is just one piece of one's faith, or at least that it should be. We all know people who question their faith, or left it completely after a bad church experience. Again, it's just my opinion, but I think that's b/c there was misplaced faith in the church, and not in God. The church is not perfect, it's made up of sinful people.

So, if your pastor were involved in a scandle, would you question your faith in God?

See, I don't have that kind of conviction, that kind of relationship with God. And a little deep-down part of me wishes I did - because I think there'd be a lot positives that go along with that. But I haven't ever found that kind of faith.
