1. Do your kids go to school on the last day of school?

2. Do you throw (or let them throw) an end of year party for their friends?

3. How many *graduation ceremonies* will/have your children experienced in their life time?

I've promised the girl that she can have her sweet 16 onstage here at the theater I work at - complete with dj and dancing...I can use the theater for free...and can't think of anyplace else she'd rather have a party than on a stage LOL

That is perfect for her! Ds1 had his at the beach with the baseball team, his two favorite things!

Seriously?! My dd got to go bowling for her 16th.

That's just about on par with what my nieces did for their 16th birthdays.

I think that couples should get a home together.... I've heard quite a few stories (just shy of) regret, b/c they missed out on that stage of their lives together.

<<It IS a lot IMO. Sweet 16's are a big hoopla event by me. The dress, the friends, the candle ceremonies, etc, etc. I don't think my dd would want a party at home as not sure what the kids would do as we don't have pool and she has a summer bday. >>

Friends of mine combined their two dd's 16's and rented a pool, shared expenses and such.

"Sweet 16's are a big hoopla event by me. The dress, the friends, the candle ceremonies, etc, etc." It must be regional... I can't even imagine.

eh whatever - it's a big deal in a lot of the country - just like quincineras are big with latino girls turning 15-- I don't see a problem if its within the family's means to do so... I never threw big parties for the girl when she was little and i'm kind of looking forward to the chance to do something splashy in a few years...

The Boy turns 13 tomorrow. We are all (me, dh, The Girl and The Boy) are going to lunch - he gets to choose the location. And then he and I are going to a minor league baseball game. We'll eat dinner at the ballpark, and he'll get to have some sort of dessert-y treat and some sort of souvenir.

It's not uncommon around here to do a Sweet Sixteen party - or to do something special for a girl's 16th birthday, but it's not $7000 parties. The Girl's best friend's party was cool - she and two friends (The Girl was one) and her mom went to "the city" and went out to a fancy dinner, and then had a limo ride around town, then stayed in a fancy suite in a fancy hotel - breakfast, lunch and shopping the next day. it was fun, and not cheap, but wasn't 1000s of dollars either.

That must be a regional thing. I've never known anyone around here (or anywhere else, come to think of it) who had a party for a 16th birthday that was any more special than for any other age.

Might be but I know the ones on that MTV show years ago came from all over. Those are just ridiculously expensive parties on those shows though.
