Do you (or did you when the kids were at home) have a family night where everyone shuts off their individual computers/games/cellphones and gets together as a family?

Hope you've had a good weekend and I look forward to your feedback!

My son loves Bill Nye the Science Guy!

We don't have a regular night each week where we have family night, but we do it when we find we have a free evening.

We do, on Friday nights. We alternate watching a movie with playing board games (kids get to choose the game or movie one week, the adults the next). There are some Fridays we miss, but we try to do it as regularly as possible. We limit computer time, so that's not really an issue for us.

We usually do at least one night on the weekends. My kids aren't allowed to watch tv or play video games during the school week. Either Friday or Saturday night, whichever is free, we will either play a board game or watch a movie. Movies are hard b/c my oldest at 11 doesn't always want to watch things that my 6 yr old wants plus we have the boy vs girl thing. We got Netflix a couple months ago so that helps w/movie selection. We also love shows like planet Earth or other nature shows. They all love Wipeout which we tape and watch on weekends. Cash Cab is Another favorite. Boardgames we like are Apples to Apples, Life, Clue, Pictureka, Spot It. Last night was a special treat b/c we let them eat dinner in front of the TV which we never do and stay up late for the SuperBowl. And thankfully, the steelers lost!

We have what you've described almost every night. It's called "dinner". 4-6 days a week, we all have dinner together, at the kitchen table, with phones put away, tv off, music on.

But to take it a step further, we often (but not in a predictable way) have family movie or family game night. Usually 2x a month or so. We'll play Uno or Scrabble, or Apples to Apples or another of our huge collection of games. We do family movie nights too.
