Fashion "Rules"

Talking about wedding guest attire has made me realize a lot of the fashion guidelines I was raised with are pretty much outdated these days.  Things like guys not wearing  ball caps indoors, women wearing white only between Memorial Day and Labor Day, no LBDs before 5 pm, and hose with every outfit are gone.  Do you adhere to any of these guidelines anymore?  Are there any fashion guidelines you DO adhere to?

My fashion guidelines are few:
Does it look good?
Do you like it?
Is it comfortable?
Is it weather appropriate?
Does it cover up the necessary bits?

If yes ... wear it.

TY for your understanding mops. It's not uncommon at all to see kids attend mass in their soccer/football uniforms as many had games before or after, People in cut offs etc. I learned from a really early age that you attend church in something more reverent and I've tried passing that down to my own family too, I do have to say that allowed DD2 to wear a sparkly disco dress she wore for Halloween to mass one week, She was probably 8 or 9 at the time and insited it was "dressy" enough for church. Lol.

Yes spring, I will go as far as buying coordinating knee highs. Lol. Not that you can see them but they're my go to "sock" when I wear/wore nice pants.

Yes. You can see them with flats though and I like ones that have all different designs. They have such nice ones out now.

Ducky, the priests are all dressed up ;) The congregation isn't necessarily. It is similar in the Greek churches (in Greece, not the ones in the US).

Is there something there you'd like to debate?  What's your experience with a RCC mass?

I wear white before Memorial Day, I will not wear skin colored hose. If I have to wear something on my legs it will be a dark color or tights. Any "knee highs" I wear are basically trouser socks or colored ones, no skin color. I will "coordinate" and not always just match. I don't match my handbag to my shoes. I don't always match my mani to my pedi.

"My girls don't wear hats," ---------- I don't usually either, but I did wear a nice hat with a huge brim recently to an outdoor luncheon. Good thing too, because the king showed up (which I didn't know ahead of time).

I use the fashion rules more as a guildeline, lol.  For example, I will wear white in May (before Memorial day) or September (after Labor Day) if the weather is nice.  I only wear hose if I'm dressing up.  My girls don't wear hats, and my boys don't wear them indoors (including dh).

Wait, dd16 did wear hats after she shaved her head for a friend that was losing her hair due to illness.  But, as far as I can remember, she didn't wear them indoors.  I don't wear black or white to a wedding or a party dress to a funeral.

I follow not wearing white during that time, wouldn't wear all black to a wedding and probably a couple of others I don't even know I'm following.  I tend to be a rule follower.  :)
