Flu Shots - Have you gotten them?

I was just watching the Today show and it reported that 4 children have DIED from the flu in Denver this year! One of them wasn't even symptomatic, other than complaining of a tummy ache. He died a few hours after his parents brought him to the ER, he was 8 years old.

They said that this is going to be one of the worse seasons for flu. I know I should get my son a shot since people with asmtha are more susceptible. He already informed me that he's going to run away from me if he even sees us pull up to the drs. office because he hates shots but too bad, I'm just going to have to tie him down.

I have to get one too. Being in the schools all the time makes you a germ magnet. I'm calling the drs. office as soon as they get in!

Everyone in our family except Devin has had their flu shots. I got mine at the ped. office when Zak got his. Alex had his at his check up. I tried to get the doctors to give Devin one while he was in the hospital but they have to check his counts first. We can't afford to get the flu between Devin's blood counts and the kids being asthmatic.

DH and the boys have both gotten them. I've never gotten a flu shot, but then again, I've never gotten the flu either.

OMG! I saw that on Today too! So I finally got my flu shot this morning. It was pretty dumb of me to not have gotten one earlier since I work in a hospital. You should totally get the flu shot since you work with school children. Here in CA, almost all cases of the flu have been in children. Better late than never!

It is scary. 5 children died in Britain too. I heard that the flu shot will not protect you from this particular strain. I have been sick since the beginning of November. First it was stomach flu - barely got over that and got a head cold with flu, barely got over that and my dd got the stomach flu and I got it again. I just barely got over another wicked chest cold and flu symptoms. It has been pure hell, but I haven't gotten the flu shot. The last time I got the shot was 2 years ago and I was sicker than I have ever been in my life. Last year I escaped with nothing - making up for it this year!

While the shot isn't a bad idea, you do realize that this is a mutated strain of the flu that the shot doesn't work well against, right?

Nope, never. I think I'd rather risk potentially feeling bad for a couple of days than pay money to have a needle stuck in my arm. Yikes. Anyhow, if it were *necessary* you'd think it'd have more of a manditory feel to it...like childhood vaccs - MMR, etc. Aren't they just recommended for children & the elderly, or those with immuno deficiencies?

Add children under age 2 and pregnant women in their second and third trimesters to your list. I got one and DS got his this year...better safe than sorry. The one year I didn't get one, I got the most wicked case of it...105 fever and everything--UGH! C

Yep, I had children on my list, I hadn't heard about pregnant women though.

Maybe its that I've never experienced the flu that badly...105 fever!!!I'm so sorry, that sounds terrible. I actually can't remember if I've ever had the flu. I'm not often under the weather, and unless you've got something bacterial, the doctor wouldn't be able to do anything anyway. You know, drink liquids, get lots of sleep, & tylenol for the fever...that'll be $75, thanks. :)
