I got off work early so am tackling some chores.

What are your least favorite chore?

Which ones do you not mind so much?

I never thought of cooking as a chore. I'm not debating that it is, just saying that I never thought of it that way. Now cleaning up afterward, that's a chore to me.

I consider it a chore. It is one of the chores I don't mind, sometimes even enjoy, but it is still part of making the house run, IMO.

I've always thought of it as on par with bathing - just something you do to take care of yourself.

I don't see cooking for myself as a chore but do cooking for others.

In much the same way I never saw taking a bath a chore but giving my kids a bath was a chore.

I think the difference is one is routine maintenance that one has to do fro oneself to survive/be healthy. The other is something done for someone else.

I wasn't thinking of cooking as a chore, but even so, I don't spend 3 hours a day on chores. During the week, we eat pretty simply. I do laundry once a week (sometimes every ten days). I clean the house every two weeks (that takes 3-4 hours) and just pick up, sweep, etc. in between. My house isn't immaculate, but I think it's "nice" enough!;)

I agree with that. And if I was cooking my meal separately from everyone else's meals, I would consider cooking for them to be a chore, too.

My house isn't immaculate either, but it takes some dailyt maintenance. And we don't even have enough clothes to go ten days without doing laundry.

Maybe I am just very slow. Cooking 1-2 meals a day and cleaning after them usually takes me some time, although our meals very simple also.

I have a cleaning lady once a week who sweeps/vacuums, washes all the floors, does maintenance cleaning in the kitchen etc. She also does some laundry most times she comes, folds some laundry and irons the few things that need ironing.

But to look decent, the place really should be dusted and swept daily, and then there are all the things the cleaning lady never does, no matter how many times I tell her, like baseboards, walls and doors, those she never cleans, ditto for bathroom tile, except a perfunctory wipe. So, I have to get those things done somewhere along the line. On top of that, there is the daily tidying and the laundry. We do not have a dryer, and so clothes have to be hung up, then folded. Because space is limited for the drying, I have to do laundry daily to keep up.

Like I said, I don't usually get around to it all, so my house looks far from decent on most days. But if I did do it all, it would take several hours daily.

If I only had myself to worry about, I would cook very differently on most days. I am ok with a sandwich for lunch and a piece of sauteed fish or chicken with a side of broccoli for dinner. The inmates, not so much, or maybe they are just spoiled.

ETA: I would also use the freezer a lot more, IOW, make big batches and freeze stuff. But the inmates do not like to eat food that has been frozen.
