So I heard a lot of chanting at school yesterday about tomorrow (today) being pay day, Woot!  Ha, That doesn't mean a lot to me but some of those teachers make good money and b/w that and the slip ins about money in a couple threads here I thought a thread would be fun..

How often are you/your DH paid

Do you discuss finances with your children?  To what extent?

Are you a spender or a saver

Why is the super a snot? Our super has a Ph.D and makes nearly 200k. I don't begrudge her the salary. At all.

"I can clean my entire house in a day, too. Your house is perfect for you. My house is perfect for me. I don't get why you're compelled to find something wrong with those of us with larger houses or make assumptions about cleaning all the time or whatever."..... Great :)

Maybe not in your mind, but if I say someone is making "good money," they're making bank.

It is clear that you and I have very different definitions of what constitutes good money, Jams. That's fine. I have a rather skewed perception of personal finance in general b/c of the nature of DH's job. Therefore it takes a lot (net worth and income-wise) to impress me. Yet another reason I haven't gone back to work...

I never considered my dad and mom's house to be a big house but the SF is public record and I found out once it's about 1900 SF. That's a pretty big house by northeast standards and I think you'd agree, cchick! ;-)

You haven't gone back to work because the pay is not "good money"? No one really starts at the top lol.

Our house is just under 2000 square feet (I think 1947).   During our military years we had a wide variety if sizes and for the most part they were small for our needs.  When DH retired we were able to buy the size house that fit our needs.  It was a very good fit for the 5 of us.

It is more space than we need for the two of us but not an overwhelming amount of extra space.  Even though some of the extra space is not used everyday I like having it.  I like having rooms for particualar tasks and not having to multipurpose rooms.  The three previous kids bedrooms are now an exercise room, an office/storage and a guest room.  The guest room has come in very handy these last two weeks that DD2 has been recovering from surgery.

I do not know if we would save anything by downsizing because more than likely our mortgage would increase.  A smaller place would probably mean less in utilities but just the fact that there are only two of us living here instead of 5 has brought down our utility costs.

If we did move I would probably go for something with a bigger kitchen and dining room.  Even though it is only DH and I  most of the time when we do have the entire extended family for get togthers we are at at least nine and that number will probably grow.

Well, I guess if you have a bunch of "stuff" in your house that needs to be cleaned, then it would be an issue. Dusting and vacuuming aren't all that difficult. The worst part is vacuuming the stairs, but if I living in a two story dwelling, then that would be an issue no matter the size of the house.
