So I heard a lot of chanting at school yesterday about tomorrow (today) being pay day, Woot!  Ha, That doesn't mean a lot to me but some of those teachers make good money and b/w that and the slip ins about money in a couple threads here I thought a thread would be fun..

How often are you/your DH paid

Do you discuss finances with your children?  To what extent?

Are you a spender or a saver

I use a certified financial planner. But I don't pay her. My funds (and dh's) have a $20 yearly account fee. Since I make well over $20 an hour that's a good investment; I'd spend way more than 2 hours a year researching the thugs that my planner does. She's also a family friend. So I trust her completely.

You never answered me Geschichtgal, do you speak to your parents about your investments and/or do they talk to you about theirs? We have always had an open communication in my family. I learned a lot from my dad.

How is tha personal? Your company either has a pension plan for 40 something employees, or not. I know it does not. So sorry

That is why financial advisors make A LOT of money lol. I am not sure if you read that my father, who had NO specialized knowledge or education as a financial advisor TAUGHT the financial advisor things at a class he went to. He thought he would go and learn things and he learned nothing and taught the teacher. lol. He did a lot of research and knew what he was doing. He eventually went to a FA closer to retirement to make sure he was doing all he could and he was.

Your dad having good investment knowledge years and years ago does not mean that you have good investment knowledge now.  Just because your dad talked with an incompetent financial advisor, doesn't mean that all financial advisors are incompetent.  Besides it makes more sense to meet with a financial advisor waaaaaaay before you retire than to only see one right before you retire.
