This is why retailers LOVE gift cards. I read a couple of years ago that something like a third of them are never redeemed. I've got over $500 of gift cards just sitting in my drawer. I had more, but one of the stores I had a gift card to went out of business last month. Bummer.
I have to be reminded to use GC's. I don't think I've used but one or two (of the whole maybe 6 or 7 that I've ever received) before they expired.
The oldest g/c I have is probably from Banana Republic, I still have a small balance on it but I haven't been there in a very long time.
My usual gift for "older" people, who don't need things are restaurant gift cards.
Jam-is there an "expiration" date on the gc you have? I know some have them and some don't.
Same here. I recently cashed in 5 years worth of Bath & Body Works gift cards, and got a year's supply, at least, of hand soap, body lotion, etc. I have Starbucks cards, swimwear cards, restaurant cards, Home Depot cards, etc. I now keep them in a special wallet in my purse, but I still rarely get to the places I need to go to cash them in. :-/ There is a website out there where you can trade or sell gift cards; can't think of the name...
Shaking my head at the things grown women get their panties in a wad about.
The worst part for me is that the only person who ever gives me gift cards (or gifts, for that matter) is my son. And he doesn't let me out of my sight, so he knows if I've used them or not. I don't want to discourage him from giving me gifts (it took until 2 years ago before he even did that) but gift cards are so easily out-of-sight-out-of-mind for me. One year he gave me an Overstock GC and I finally had to order a boatload of yarn from them to get him off my back. ;) I also detest shopping online, so that particular one made me feel very pressured.
