That gift card doesn't expire but it's getting a little gray around the corners, Lol.

Oh no...I don't believe in giving input about gifts that might come my way.  I appreciate any gift, whether I use it or not, because someone thought enough of me to want me to give me something.  It doesn't matter what it is.

I can see if it was anybody Lauren but this is your own son. Why not let him know what you like and dislike so you can get a gift you really enjoy?

Because whether or not I enjoy it is not the point.  He found something he wanted to give me and he gave it to me.  That is far, far more important than whether or not it was something I wanted.

I understand that to a point Lauren as I would be happy with anything my child or husband gave me. BUT....he IS old enough to know what you do like and what you don't.

Sure he is, and he'll figure that out. As I said earlier, I did end up using it, and on something I liked...it just wasn't the way I'd have gone about acquiring it if I were doing it on my own.

Not to mention that it was the first gift I'd gotten, from him or anyone, in over 17 years, so I floored enough just to receive something that I couldn't begin to give a rat's patoot what it was.LOL

Really.  I never thought it was that big of a deal...just figured that it was part of living the life I'm living and that eventually, things would change.  And apparently, they have.

I agree with this.  When inlaws moved to Maine I knew she shopped at llbean and they're all over up there too, So for a few years straight I bought generous gift cards there for the holidays.  I don't typically ask if you've used the card I got for you but one year I did and she told me No, b/c that's not a favorite store of hers.  I stopped sending them to them after that year.  They are hard to shop for but I buy them baskets of fruit/cheese for the holidays now..  Who doesn't eat?  Lol.  Like you said, it's different if you're sending a gift card as a courtesy to just anybody, But I think gift cards can be a real hit if it's to a specific place you (the gifter) know the giftee would like.
