I don't have any boots but I was thinking about getting a pair this winter. But there are two or three other pairs of shoes I actually need at this point, so I probably won't.

"Never tried it. I still have knee problems from when I fell roller-skating in 1978. I think I should leave skating alone." --- Yikes! Definitely sounds wise for you to leave skates alone. I would love to skate again, but with my messed up back it may be unwise for me too.

"The warmest boots I own are fake uggs that I got from Costco. lol. They are sheep-skined lined and I wear them to anything that I will be outside for hours." ------ I had some fake uggs that were intended for slippers, but I used them as boots when I had to go to Copenhagen in winter. Also great on planes.

They are really comfy and warm. They are my go to for every cold football game and anything I need to be outside for, for more than a couple of minutes.

"No, I'm staying put this winter, and the Gulf is too cold to water-ski. ;p" ------ Now that I have never tried. It would scare me silly, lol.

1. Are you planning to go skiing this winter?  No, I'm not a big fan of skiing.  I've done it a handful of times but I don't like wearing all the bulky gear.  The only time I truly enjoyed skiing was in the Italian Alps - so totally different than what I've experienced here in the US and it was a blast.  I think it was more enjoyable b/c I just like going straight down at a good clip versus having to constantly turn right and left.  Sad really, b/c dh grew up with a ski condo at Tahoe, but he doesn't really miss skiing and it's too expensive to do it often enough with the kids for them to be good at it.

2. When is the last time you ice-skated? (Did you fall?)  A couple of years ago.  It was the first time I'd been on skates since college, but my young dd had never been so I promised I'd get out on the ice with her (my older kids all had lessons).  Dh has NEVER skated, as mentioned above he was a skiier, so he wouldn't do it, I had to.  And no, I didn't fall but I'm not very good at it.  I take the kids frequently in winter b/c we have an outdoor rink at a local park just up the street, but I just hang out inside the clubhouse!

3. Any new winter coat this year, if so please describe?  No, I have plenty of coats and don't need any new ones, unless you count the pullover 1/4 zip fleece I just bought from Lands End the other day.  Funny thing is that I hate wearing coats in the winter even though I own so many.  I only wear them if I'm going to be outside for an extended period of time - otherwise I have a lightweight suede jacket or a vest that I'll wear.  Drives my mom crazy when she sees me - she always struggled with me as a kid to wear a coat but I've never liked the bulk.

4. Favorite winter footwear?  Don't know that I have a favorite pair.  I don't own Uggs - I don't like them.  I've tried my dd's pair on and they make my feet too sweaty.  I have a couple of pair of leather and suede boots but most days I'm wearing some type of Born clog.

5. Favorite winter soup? (Recipe?)  Love soup!  My favorites are butternut squash (esp w/crab or lobster), Hungarian mushroom soup, corn & potato chowder and minestrone.  Don' t have any recipes handy but will gladly post them if anyone would like one.

And no, I didn't fall but I'm not very good at it.

I am not very good either. My mom always impressed us, because she can do jumps and stuff. She is also an excellent skier, and generally a good athlete, unlike her offspring. Poor woman! She produced 3 duds in the sports department, lol.

or a vest that I'll wear.

I was thinking that a really warm shearling or similar vest might do the trick here a lot of the time. It would also be good for dog walking.

The idea of seafood in squash soup sounds intriguing.

Me too, actually. I've done it on lakes but for some reason the idea of the ocean under me scares me, and I don't want to do it.

A few weeks ago I was at the beach early on a Sunday morning watching a guy with some jet-pack contraption literally shooting up out of the water 10-15 feet. It was fun to watch, but I wouldn't try it myself!

Mhm, plus, sharks! I just can't imagine swimming or playing in shark-infested waters.

"Well yes, there is that too. ;)" ------ The worst thing in Danish waters is this thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_weever Its sting can be really bad, but it still not exactly a shark.
