My fault. I brought it up in reference to DS. Although apparently, despite not knowing ANYTHING about my school district, elementary school, etc--Spiced Nut Cookie has deemed it a faux gifted program. As opposed to her kid's "real" gifted program. Keeping score again, y'all. Now who's the mean girl?
On Wednesdays we wear pink.
Define "most", please. Our schools have been known to test kids for giftedness as early as kindergarten.
That gate program your DS is in is a wonderful one, The kids at the catholic school here competed in the odeysee of the mind thing a couple weekends ago - they finished 2nd or 3rd, It's a wonderful school and an amazing group of families but they're not caught up in gt labels either.
My public school tested DS in kindy. And he went into the program in first grade. Now they don't test until first grade at the earliest. But DS was tested in kindy. My nephew in another state was also tested in kindy, although they don't do gifted ed yet in kindy at his school. So he spends part of the day in a first grade class. My other nephew wasn't tested or placed until 4th grade. So out of the kids on DH's side, we're at 2/5 in a gifted program--although DD isn't old enough to be tested. Of the kids on MY side, we're technically at 1/3, although that's skewed b/c it is really 2/6 but 3 of those 6 aren't old enough for testing yet--if it is adjusted for age it would be 1/2 on DH's side and 2/3 on mine. So no Cookie--not all kids are in gifted programs.

IME, our local public schools start tracking the kids in kindergarten and look at all kids in the early elementary school years.
