How many of you have girl friends that you see on a regular basis, do things with or talk to often?

if i had to pick a favorite form of babysitting, it was the parents nights out at the Y. we haven't done this in a long time, but for the cost of about 20.00 in the gold old days, we dropped all three off, they ate piza, played and watched a movie and DH and i would return as late as 10 to pick them up. that was esp nice at christmas because he and i would tackle a bunch of shopping in that time.

DH is attracted to my sense of humor and perceived intelligence more than my looks, or so he tells me. Has he been lying to me for the past 21 years?

If beauty and makeup are all it takes to keep a man spicely interested, than I have to wonder what I'm doing right and what Eva Longoria and Elin Nordgren did wrong? (They must look hidious in their sweats and their hair up when not in front of a camera!)

We have things here like that. Not sure about the Y but they do it around Christmas time so parents can do shopping.

We have a couple of gyms here that do that. We've used it occasionally, but ususally it isn't open late enough to accomodate our plans.

There have been plenty of things that we've declined, b/c it interfered with family time, or just wasn't important enough to us to bother finding a sitter, or b/c we just didn't want to leave our kids. That has nothing to do with what the op said, about not being able to get a sitter. I've never declined the opportunity to go out, nor have dh or I gone to an *event* w/out the other, *because* we could not find a sitter.

I didn't say anything about using free sitters all the time. I pay my sitters, always have (the one exception was sil, who once insisted that we let her watch dd so that we could go to dinner).

Like I said, I don't have an issue if you choose to go out sans dh, b/c you can't afford a sitter.

It varies. Depends on the ages of the kids, the time of day, if the kids are in bed or not, if the sitter is preparing a meal, how old the sitter is, if s/he drives, if the kids need to get to or from any activities and if the sitter is responsible for that......
