Do you think that Halloween costumes should be allowed at schools?

I don't know I guess it's a nostalgia thing that parent's miss.

Color me ignorant, because I didn't even realize Halloween costumes were allowed in the classroom in the first place.

I absolutely side with the total ban.

Once upon a time, our elementary school had an annual Halloween parade. Kids couldn't wear costumes to school, but they could bring them and put them on for the parade, which was at the end of the day. It was fun, but a few years ago, the school decided it was too distracting and eliminated it. I didn't care either way, but the kids were disappointed. My kids' current school (grades 6 to 12) doesn't have a costume ban, and quite a few kids do dress up if Halloween falls on a school day. But it's an arts school, so creativity is part of the curriculum.

We have spirit day, penguin day, pajama day, superhero day and I don't know what other kind of day, but they manage to pull it all off without the school descending into Lord of the Flies. I don't care one way or another though. Kids are not lacking in opportunities to dress up and get candy.

Yes our schools do the spirit days at all levels, so it's kind of interesting that that is ok.

my youngest is in 3rd grade, this is the first year the schools are doing away with halloween parties too, these changes however are coming from the top, the teachers aren't happy about it either. i think it's stupid, it's just one day for a party, dress up and pumpkin carving which us parents have enjoyed volunteering and helping with in the past too. let's see if the kids really excel this year because we've denied them the excitment taht normally comes this time of the year, it's a punishment because of results from testing last year is what it is.

this is what my kids elementary school did.. kids were asked to pack their costumes not wear them to school, there was pumpkin carving and there was a fun skit in the auditorium and a parade too, the kids really enjoyed it. and its one of those few days a year when you had to park a mile away from school because there were no parking spots left nearby, lots and lots of parent involvement and support, Lol! oh well...
