When my kids were in elementary school, their school had a no-holiday-parties rule, but no one complained. There were plenty of opportunities to eat cupcakes or candy. On Halloween, many kids did wear their costumes, but as long as they did not have masks and were able to get

That's horrible, but it doesn't surprise me at all. Schools were a lot more segregated in years past in more ways than one. I remember the year my family qualified for a reduced price lunch at school and I had to stand in a separate line from the full-pay kids. Can you imagine a school trying to pull that nonsense today?

When my mother was in elementary or middle school, her school was having some sort of Halloween party and you got to participate if you came dressed in costume.
