Do you think that Halloween costumes should be allowed at schools?

My dd's school has a Halloween party. Friday afternoon starting at 1:00 they will get in costume and do a parade around the school. Then they have a party. The rule is generally that snacks have to be healthy, and the teacher asked us to send in treats like pencils and spider rings, so I'm hoping there won't be too much candy. Last year, my kids got so much candy from daycare/trick or treating it was ridiculous. Of course, DS will probably bring home a bunch of candy from daycare, just like last year. I couldn't believe how many parents sent in full size treat bags for the whole class.

Only the Kindergarten class could dress in costume.

this is me. I just can't see getting worked up over it. I can't imagine anyone spending their time and energy on this issue ...

The elementary school my older son went to always had a "fall festival" with some kind of theme, which was a pain the rear. Kids could wear costumes to the festival, but it had to be related to the theme, which was something like WIld West (no guns), Circus, Renaissance Faire, or in 2001, a Space Odyssey. The problem is that half the time the kid wanted to be something completely unrelated for Halloween, which meant we needed two costumes for the week. Lucky we had a pretty good dress up box back in the day!

My kids just told me last night that their school (grades 6-12) is having Halloween costume day on Thursday. It's a performing arts magnet, though, so they do lots of things differently.

Since when is it a requirement for Sahps to make their children's haloween costumes?

I sew, but hate Halloween. I wouldn't make Halloween costumes, even if I did SAH. I am however helping with costumes for the Nutcracker production my daughter is in. And both of the women who coordinate the costumes for the production WOH- although they both have adult children.
