I hate the reality shows, DD1 watches that show catfish and jersey shore reruns, Lol.  Nobody needs cable, All these things have made life "easier" is all which was kinda my point earlier too.

I watch catfish too lol but I dont know how real it is as one of the people on there that fooled another person is a model and actress so I am thinking it might be fake. I have no interest in Jersey Shore. I watched some of the first season and then I was done. I like some of the TLC shows, HGTV, OWN, kids like the kids stations, weather channel, Food, etc lol.

I agree Marla, But we live in a messed up world nowadays, Parents taking out parent loans and other things to help their kids through college, Why stop there?  I wonder if Professor's experience with parents was like that when she was in school back in the day...

I don't think that a parent taking out a loan so their child can attend college qualifies as "messed up."

LOL, ditto. We have not done that, but we are also lucky in that we are not dealing with US college costs.

I don't know either, Just an attempt to understand why a parent would want to know everything about the schooling they're paying for too, Add a communication problem b/w parent and child and you've got....  a hot mess

Parents have been paying for their kids' college since there were colleges. My husband is 70 years old. His parents paid for his and his sibling's college. They also loaned him $$$ for his first year of grad school until his GI bill benefits came through.

"Just an attempt to understand why a parent would want to know everything about the schooling"

Some parents are overly controlling and have a hard time letting go. I have seen parents who paid zero towards their kids' college still trying to control that part of the kids' schooling.

Then you have people like my grandpa, who never, ever once asked how I spent the money he gave me.
