In an effort to move on from the other thread, Lol...... What is helicopter parenting IYO? Do you see it only at school or in other settings as well? What does it look like? Provide examples if you can, Thank you.

How old is your DS?
I'm not saying keep technology out of the hands of kids and I agree that they're neat tools to stay in touch with but the ease and convenience technology has made things leaves getting up to go to the bathroom one of the few remaining jobs you'll have to get up and do yourself, Lol. I'm not into a lot of it, My girls text a ton but I insist they call me with their voices when they need to be picked up.
Many parents stick around for birthday parties IME and it doesn't have to be written in an invitation to do so, Lol, DS attended a 10th birthday party last weekend in fact, I was the only mom who didn't stay b/c I had to be somewhere else.
That's true hazeleyes, And every generation had their thing I suppose, I remember when answering machines were first introduced and dad reminding us that not having one wasn't going to kill you! They finally invested in one when we all left the house I think.
11. And I love texting.

Was the nanny the kids' caretaker for their younger years too? My aunt had a house lady/maid/nanny, She didn't work but she had a pretty busy life away from home and the woman did everything from laundry to cooking and getting her kids places even through their teenage years, She was like a part of the family. Like Alice on The Brady Bunch.
I don't care that she stayed. I believe I said it was nice to have another mother to talk to. But no other parents stayed for the party and she clearly said she was staying solely b/c it was a pool party. And her kid swims competitively. Which I found to be amusing...

I have never understood SAHMs w/nannies or housekeepers. I SAH, so the bulk of childcare and housekeeping is my responsibility. Now that the kids are older, I expect them to do their fair share of work. As they get older, their responsibilites increase. And DH does a reasonable share relative to how much he WOH. But the bulk of it--that's all me. I can not imagine how bored out of mind I would be if someone else was caring for the kids and the house. And the kids and the house aren't all I do. Not by a long shot. I have a volunteer schedule that easily rivals the schedule of part time (unpaid, of course) employment. And started grad school last fall. The house is still clean. Meals are still cooked. Laundry is still done. It all gets done.
Perhaps it is the control freak in me, but more than that, I like being the one doing that stuff for my family. I can't imagine hiring it out...

You don't mean prayer cards, Do you? It's been a long time since I've been to a funeral but for mom's we had these (business card size) prayer cards printed, One side was her dob - date of death and a pic of the blessed virgin, On the back was the prayer of St.Francis which was her favorite prayer, Those were just on a podium thing if you wanted to take one.
