I emphasised the word *really* when i said that I didn't *really* enjoy it. I've also said that I have learned to "chill out". I think that you totally go "iykwim"...lol.

Apparently I didn't know what you meant.
Meaning I didn't care or even notice if anything went "wrong" that day.

I don't think it is a glad or sad sort of thing. It is a social event most of all, some people enjoy those more than others, right off the bat. I can see if you like parties, you are young and someone else does the party for you, that you might find it fun. Otherwise, not so much. I am glad that I married dh. I am glad that my grandpa came for the wedding. But that is about it. Having to deal with MIL and psycho SIL was unpleasant. Having to entertain my relatives for days was exhausting and so on.
I am not sure where exactly, but he explained that it was nice where they were, and that the neighborhood was peopled mostly by Jewish refugees from Germany. This was perfect for dh because he spoke no English, but his first language was German. It also meant that the neighborhood and the local school had a very European vibe. I think it greatly eased his adjustment to the new country and language.
His English teacher gave him extra help after school, and when she realized he knew German, she taught him English grammar by referring to his knowledge of German. He was very lucky to end up where he did. By the time he was finishing HS, they had moved north of the city.
