And those who walk away tell their friends and their friends tell their friends and pretty soon no business and no job.

From what the brides have told me, champagne in the bridal dressing room is not uncommon.

No one has copies of the artwork on my walls.

In Greece and Italy they tested for thalassemia. Being a carrier is not that big a problem, but if both parents are carriers, their kids may end up with a fatal version of the disorder. Because of the extensive testing for decades, it is now very rare for kids to have the fatal version.

LOL, that really depends who you are. My grandmother had a story about every painting in her house, where she bought it, why, who the artist was/is. Those paintings were very personal and there were memories attached to them for her.

Then there are more personal art work. For example, I have portraits of my two brothers, done by my two brothers (each drew the other). It does not get much more personal than that. I also have a painting my brother did, a wood print my father did and so on.

One day I looked more closely at a print my mother has. It is by a fairly accomplished and well known artist. It is signed "To 'mom's name' with love." I imagine my mother has some memories attached to that.

I've read about that. In the US, I think they recommend testing for Ashkenazi Jews for Tay-Sachs and Sickle Cell Anemia for African Americans. It's not a requirement though . . .

IMO, close relationships do not hinge on how close in age a parent is to her child.
