It is rather curious, I grant you. Dd was reading Plato over the summer and found it quite hilarious, especially the discussions about the proper ways to pursue boys and the complaints about hangovers.

Freud, of course, once wrote an essay on what a great drug he thought cocaine was. Depravity, sloth and unfortunate desires are nothing new.

Maybe that's the key. Adults always rant and rave about the youth of today and the youth think that no one before them knows anything about sex or drugs or other vices. Maybe that's why it's perpetuated from generation to generation.

ETA: I still remember how astonishing it was when I realized how vulgar some of Shakespeare's scenes were.

"Besides, I don't know u, so why do I have to do research that you are capable of doing urself."

I find it deliciously ironic that the 25-year-old who argues that today's teens are lazier than her "generation" can't be bother to add the two letters necessary to spell "you" and "yourself" correctly.

Yes, perhaps, lol. I have had some amusing conversations in the last year with dd, where she will hint at something, I will spell it out and she goes "WHAAAAAA? How did you know?" Uhm, kid, remember that Ian Dury you think is so cool? I saw him live.

Of course, to her, I am a dotty old lady in uncool clothes and with boring habits. So it is clearly difficult for her to quite take in some of the things I have experienced.

No, no, you did very well, because it obviously escaped taurus' attention the first time around.

My phone screen has a little "up arrow" key to the left (near where shift would be on a QWERTY keyboard) that lets me capitalize.

Nifty! I text so little, that I have never really figured out how it works. I find the whole business very slow and frustrating. But I will have to investigate this capitalization business.

Make that three.

I do use textspeak occasionally when texting to dd, but that's about the only time.
