Inquiring minds want to know?
BFF stands for Best Friend Forever, and is used extensively (although not exlcusively) in message board and chat environements.
I don't say Dee-Aitch, or Dee-Ess verbally. I also don't say Bee-Eff-Eff verbally.

Do you talk to people IRL about your best friend as BEST FRIEND FOREVER???-lol!!
Yep. I would say my husband is my best friend but not call him my BFF-bawwahhaa!!

Yes, I said message boards. I didn't say "just ivillage".

Not ime. I see BFF used all the time on message boards ... particularly to distinguish between boyfriends (which can be abbreviated BF) and best friend (which can be abbreviated BF).

I do not refer, IRL, to my best friend as my BEST FRIEND FOREVER. But I do refer to her as my BEST FRIEND. So, in that light, it's more appropriate to abbreviate her as BFF on boards than it is to abbreviate my husband as dh.
