EXACTLY!!! IME, adult women don't go around telling everyone that so and so is her "best" friend like a 10 yr. old would do.

Because they're not a girlfriend. There's nothing wrong with being a girlfriend, but if that's not what you are, then it is, imo, inappopriate to call them that.

analogy 1: If a man and woman are engaged, and he introduces her as his "friend" at a company shindig, don't you think that would be almost insulting to the woman?

analogy 2: If a man is a financial coordinator, but is referred to by a coworker as a secretary, wouldn't that be inappropriate and incorrect?

Nope, it is the same thing, IMO. I can have tons of girlfriends and one of them can be my best friend but as an adult, she would be my girlfriend.

Even just best friend would be better then best friend "forever". It is like in high school when you write a boys names and so and so forever-lol!!!

I took my BFF with me to a social event a few weeks ago. She didn't know some of the people there. When introducing her, I said "Hey, I'd like you to meet my best friend, Hxxxxx."

I don't find that particularly odd.

Ummmm...I usually do. I will use their names to my friends or husband, daughter or son to others.

Then maybe you don't have the same level of distinction amongst friends that I do.

And, I don't think it is wrong or odd of you to call her girlfriend. It's your relationship; call it like you want. But please, don't tell me it's wrong for me to call mine what I want.

Best Friend "Forever" is NOT appropriate for an adult to say, IMO. Do you write thats_fowl & (dh name) forever still like you would do in middle and high school?-lol!!

And I have already said that the "forever" is only used on message boards, where there sometimes needs to be a distinction between Best Friend and Boy Friend.

Really? Haven't you called your husband DH, or your children DS or DD? What's the difference?

Generally accepted abbreviations may be annoying, but not unusual.
