In the circles I travel in "girfriend" has a different connotation so I would never say that on a message board....

To me, those are much more juvenile than using bff or puffy heart because they are usually posted when one can't make a point in the debate and responds....well in a juvenile way instead of an adult way and adding to the debate or conceding the point.
