This whole story
Our school system no longer allows paddling, but it did when I was a child.
In our school the parent can request the administration "spank" they are not allowed to do it otherwise. I agree with you, Im not a spanker either, but a TAP on the bum, i would not consider child abuse.
hmmm...this seems like an interesting discussion. I haven't seen this clip, so I don't really feel that I can speak educatedly about weither or not this particular mother was abusive. I do have to say that I also beleive that parents from different states/areas of the county parent differently. I was born and raised in Louisiana (gasp) but now live in California. I was raised to be a much more respectful child than my son, at 29 years old I still say "yes m'am" to my mother, I'm lucky if I can get yes instead of yay from my son, and I was absolutely horrified to learn that he has tried to call his teacher by her first name.
Welcome here and thanks for joining the discussion; hope to see you around lots!
"I personally feel that forcing a child in any way is abusive..."

Yes,.. I previously said "I personally feel that forcing a child in any way is abusive..."
What I mean and SHOULD have said is... I personally feel that forcing a child with the intent to cause unreasonable physical and emotional pain as punishment for a 'crime' ('crime' for the purpose of this discussion meaning an action done by a child with intent on being a nasty little bad a$$, (and I'm not say that the child in this situation was a nasty little bad a$$ but I concluded from the article that he was a difficult child) and
