i suppose it's a matter of opinion. As a child, whever I said a "bad word" i got a shot of tabasco on my tongue. (that didn't stop me from swearing, i've always LOVED tabasco!) I believe that a shot of hot sauce is better than soap in the mouth, cuz if you swallow soap you could get diarrhea, right?
The cold shower; yea, THAT, i might consider child abuse, cuz cold showers SUCK!!!
I believe the punishment should fit the crime, which is why I don't believe a shot of tabasco when caught swearing is child abuse (but only if it's "mild" hot sauce, like tabasco.)
Spanking is another form of supposed child abuse that I don't understand. Hard spanking, which leaves welts, I'd consider to be child abuse. light swats on the bottom, not so much.
also, the last I checked, someone was trying to make it so that time-outs were considered child abuse under the category of "neglect". (and they wonder why America's youth has no respect for ANYONE.)
I believe that everyone must rejoice in his destiny, in the fact that he has lived at all and achieved a destiny. Destiny is the only sure asset.

Welcome to the board Angel and thanks for your comments. I assume she was on Dr Phil as a cry for help but I'm not certain about the specifics of how and who took the video.
I tend to think people who go on national tv to air out their personal problems with "therapists" are pretty nuts.
While I'm glad she reached out to someone, even if it was Dr. Phil, I find choosing tv and national exposure for herself and her children in the situation to be pretty questionable.
i watch dr.phil sometimes, i like his common sense and wit, LOL..but i often think this too, what drives someone to go on national television to air their dirty laundry!
i think this case was awful but i do think it could have been exaggerated too, the lady's 10 YO DD was filming the abuse.

You can, for example, hold down the child and force the meds down the child's throat. it is not pleasant, but can be necessary.

As with any type of behavior, going too far is not okay.

your child is connecting hot sauce to bad words.
If that is true, that back fired on her.
the discipline was wrong on any angle..but why would you deliberately have your DD film you commiting abuse and send the clip to dr.phil?
