Off-Hour Work Calls, Emails Upset Women More than Men

Here's another 'guilt' article. It's interesting to read but my opinion is that it's about choice. There isn't a work-issued phone that doesn't have an off switch, same with the computer. The guilt their study says women feel is self imposed and doesn't need to happen ... anyway, just my 2 cents on the subject.

I think this happens to some extent because of the image that motherhood is a "job". Afterall, SAHMs say that it is their "job" to be at home with the kids. So when WOHMs go home, they are still on the clock, just with a different job. They still have laundry to do and meals to cook and homework to help with, etc. Women view these tasks as part of their job of motherhood. When paid employment infringes on the time set asside for this other "job", women get upset.

I think that, in general, men don't view fatherhood in the same way. Men may come home and do laundry, cook meals, etc, but they view it differently. (Many, I would guess, might even view it as "helping" their wife.)

IDK, just some initial thoughts. And I've has wine, I might not be making much sense.

I don't mind taking work calls or dealing with email after hours.

My boss has Fridays off. In fact, the office is closed on Fridays. The boss does, on occassion, go into the (what is supposed to be closed) office to get things done (when it's supposed to be quiet). Poeple will see his car parked there, and just *stop in* and ask him about doing this or that or the other thing. He often says, "oh yeah that's a great idea, give Ducky a call to arrange it." I told boss yesterday that has to stop, lol. That from now on, his scripted response to anyone who *catches* him on a Friday, with any sort of request is "Hey that sounds great, give me a call on Monday and we'll discuss it" or "Call Ducky on Tuesday to make arragements for that next week." He was in agreement at the time, we'll see how many calls I get this weekend though, lol.
