How about a roll call for the New Year?

It's been awhile.

I was a SAHM for 12 years, went back to work when my DD3 went to school full time. Have been a WOHM for 8 years. For the last five years I have worked in a stock room and have increased my hours as the girls have gotten older. I now work about 36-40 hours per week.

We were a military family. I met my DH when we were both stationed in Japan. I got out when pregnant for DD1. He made a career of it and retired 5 years ago.

We have been married for 22 years and have three DDs. DD1 is 20 and a junior in college (major finance), DD2 is 18 and a freshman in college (major elementary education), DD3 is a freshman in high school.

I'm Jen, currently a sahm to my 2 sweet girls, who are 4 and 1. Dh and I have been married for 13 years. In my previous life, I was an attorney practicing in the labor and employment group of a large firm. I've been home since our second dd was born and am enjoying it immensely.

Here! I'm Suzy (37) the SAHM. Married ten years to DH (37) with four kids to show for it (ages 7, 6, 4, 2.) Dh can be a serious workaholic but just now he has taken a week off and he drives me a little crazy when he hangs around that much. I am definitely the "gatekeeper" of this house and I have a hard time letting him be an equal parent. (He couldn't possibly be as good at this as me, right?) I have absolutely NO business spending time on this board because I am an unorganized slob right now in the middle of a kitchen remodeling project. I seem to have a knack for telling complete strangers some of my innermost thoughts and details of my personal life. I find it disturbing that I can come here and blab it all out but I haven't called my best friend from college in two months. What's up with that?

Why is it easier to post personal details about one's life versus calling a friend? Because it takes about 3 minutes to write something and about a half hour to make the call -- plus you have to deal with children needing snack (always while you're on the phone) and the dog wanting to play fetch.

My DH drives me a little crazy sometimes, too. I bought all new bath stuff because he bought this way cool shower curtain last year (it has cats and dogs on it) and I finally found the towels, soap dispenser, etc to match. Our bath still has the original old lady wallpaper on it, so I came home from the store ready to rent the steamer and steam the stuff off before dinner time.

He had a cow. If he hadn't been home, I just would have done it. Now I'm waiting for him to "think about it." He is afraid to do it because last time I steamed wallpaper, we found out the paper was covering paneling, not sheetrock, and that there was no sheetrock underneath the paneling. He ended up hanging sheetrock. :-o He's not in the right frame of mind right now for handyman surprises, especially in the bathroom, LOL.

Oh, don't you love those surprises that come with homeownership? In my old house in Chicago, we had this office that was covered in nasty cheap panelling. We decided to remove it to make it easier to sell our house. (Yeah, we LIVED with it for three years and fixed it up to LEAVE, I hate that.) We pulled the panelling off to find out it was glued on by a madman who covered practically every square inch with this super strong glue. (You would have thought Jackson Pollack once lived there.) By pulling off the panelling, we ripped to shreds the underlying wallboard (well, at least there was wallboard under there, huh?) Also, in the process of chiselling off the panelling, I smashed my wedding ring into the shape of a crescent moon. I had to hire my BIL to put 1/4 inch sheetrock over the whole mess and redo the trim. A simple project gone crazy! I paid the drywall taping guys the amount it would have cost to carpet the room.

Live and learn. I did learn that you deserve to make changes WHILE you still live there. We spent $6000 putting in a cultured marble tub and shower enclosure that we never once used. Ouch.

I suppose just mentioning this, we have set ourselves up for a visit from Roni.

Mary (28), DH (26), DS1 (5), DS2 (2). I'm a PT WAHM, right now I do recruiting, although my last AH job was as the Director of Communications for a wedding company. I LOVE WAH and if I can continue to make enough I plan to do it forever! Just something about interacting with people in my PJ's:) DH returned home from Iraq in August and got out of the Army in November. Now he's a Nursing Assistant in school to get his LPN (then RN and then NP). DS1 used to be in pre-school, but he refused to go once his step dad left for Iraq. He's very sensitive to change and needs a strict schedule. DS2 is an adorable monster and keeps me on my toes at all times.

Oh and I have FMS/CFS, so I guess WOH isn't really an option for me right now unless they come up with a miracle cure, but I refuse to quit working in some capacity b/c I need more mental stimulation than the Wiggles:)

I have to laugh about the "This Old House" do-it-yourself projects.

Hugs,
