Why can’t you just use your credit card?

Cash can be seen and touched and kids get that, usually at an early age,

It depends on the value of the car.

considering my kids' ages and the fact that none of them have jobs yet, i think they're good about the concept of money, spending habits too.

it was a tiugh mindset for me to achieve. I'm very fiscally conservative. and it isn't for everyone. It takes discipline to do well.

Well yes, that makes sense, and we do the same.

My kids are at ages where they might be someplace without me and decide they need money, so a debit card is a good idea.

Like I said, we have excellent fico scores (in the absolute highest possible category), which really came in handy when we were buying our house. But, we don't plan on making any major purchases or refinances on credit, nor do either of us work in an industry that routinely scans people's fico scores before hiring them. Honestly, my fico score could be terrible with absolutely no effect on my life or finances.

There are some things I don't like using my debit card for, like hotel reservations and car rentals. They tend to put ridiculous holds on available cash, which is extremely annoying when traveling.

My oldest earns enough money that he needs a place to keep the money and budget that money... i prefer he not keep it sitting his his room... He will be earning a pay check very soon...with that comes responsibility.
