Why can’t you just use your credit card?

Cash can be seen and touched and kids get that, usually at an early age,

My DD is responsible enough for a debit card, but it would just gather dust. She finds it very difficult to part with money. She got a gift card for her birthday from her cousin, and she said she liked that, because if it was cash, she knew she'd put it in the bank, and the gift card makes her "allow" herself to buy something.

I do think it is a age thing and a maturity thing... my kids can make purchases with their own money within reason . I will buy my oldest the basics needs ...shoes clothes hygeine products etc..but if he wants more than the basic he has to purchase it himself... for example we pay his cell phone bill but any upgrade he will purchase.

The card is attached to HIS savings account, but I was going to pay for the shoes this weekend out of MY money.

To each his own but you are still young. You have years ahead of you of homes, cars, loans, etc. that you might need.

I wouldn't NOT worry about my fico score though but that is me.

I feel it is my responsibility also...it is also my responsibility to teach my kids they have to work for things they cannot just have
