Why can’t you just use your credit card?

Cash can be seen and touched and kids get that, usually at an early age,

Ah, my mortgage company doesn't hold a cushion. Even if they did, I figure my time is worth more than the interest I'd save over a year on $700.

I don't have a 5th week paycheck, since we are both paid twice a month.

Yes, you've made that clear.

That's nice. It is not uncommon by me (as I am speaking of others experiences also) to be asked for more of a cushion for escrow every year. Maybe because our taxes and insurance go up so much each year. They still want more than what it goes up though and I don' t care for them to hold my $700 or whatever they request. That money could be saved or used for whatever else I need or want.

I'm not an FHA borrower. Nor is my loan high risk. I haven't stated that my loan is low interest solely BECAUSE it has escrow. It was simply the best long-term option of the 4-8 we evaluated. It happened to require escrow. We weren't going to pass up the other parts that made it the best option just to we didn't have to do escrow.

I'd much rather give up my "free money" shoes or "free money" Patron than give up activities for the kids or my gym membership.

Your expenses don't vary monthly? My electric bill can change by as much as $125 from one month to another. My gas bill can change by as much as $75ish from one month to another. My grocery bill can swing as wildly as $250-300 from one month to another. Cable/internet/phone is bundled is one of the few things that doesn't vary at all.

Our income and bills/expenses vary quite a bit as well. And we always seem to have a lot of miscellaneous expenses from month to month. That's why the whole separate everything into categories thing doesn't work very well for us.

I did a happy dance when I got my electric bill yesterday. It was $120+ less than last month! WOOT! And last month's was already like $100 less than the month before.

Electric bills in August in Oklahoma SUCK!
