Why can’t you just use your credit card?

Cash can be seen and touched and kids get that, usually at an early age,

Right as I said back peddling... Your interest rate on your payments for your taxes and insurance

You really need to research this...It is common knowledge if you escrow your taxes ect...you may have a lower interest rate. It is a common ADVANTAGE of escrow...

We're the opposite. I'm really happy when spring comes and my gas heating bills aren't through the roof any more.

lol! Our gas bill goes up in the winter and then down again in Spring, but not nearly as dramatically as our A/C bill in the summer (and, most likely, not as dramatically as your gas bill). we can stand to be in the house and sleeping when it's "chilly" -- blankets, layers, hot tea. But in teh summer? I can't stand to be warm and I HATE sleeping in a hot room.

September is usually the best (although this year it was October) because we don't need either heat or a/c. We went weeks just opening up the windows and turning on the attic fan. Bliss!

It really is the exact opposite then. Our electric bill gets maybe $30-50 or so dollars higher in the summer, but our gas bill can very as much as $300 from February to August.

We also have a two-story house and the kids spend a lot of time upstairs. We have two units (one up and one down). Since heat rises, in the winter, the upstairs isn't too awful to heat. But in the summer? It can get really hot up there, so that unit works really hard.

One of the reasons I'm reluctant to run the air conditioner is that the place it would be most welcome is at night in the upstairs bedroom. Unfortunately, in order for it to get cool enough up there, the downstairs is frigid. I often end up opening the windows upstairs to let the cool air in at night--- the only problem is that it lets in the humidity as well. Our summer weather isn't nearly as hot as yours though.
