Why can’t you just use your credit card?

Cash can be seen and touched and kids get that, usually at an early age,

At the height of the credit frenzy, the place where we buy our appliances would bill my credit card in interest-free installments almost automatically. But yeah, other than that we have always bought stuff like that cash as well.

Nope they do not. I chose to build up my credit by using credit cards though and paying them off.

You will be surprised how often you do have your credit run. Do you get your yearly credit report? It shows you what companies have checked you out.

If frugal means no birthday parties for children, no decorations in my home, no vacations for my kids so I could have clothes, shoes, alcohol and braces...then I am NOT frugal and hope never to be. My kids come first, always. I do the best I can to make memories for and with them. MY needs come 2nd at this point and will until they are much older.

I have no idea how savcal's income (regardless of how many sources it comes from) compares to my family's income (that comes from one source). All I know is that we have excellent credit, pay cash for most things, and manage to save. It sounds as though this is true for her as well... I'm not sure why you, and others, have to constantly compare your income to that of others.

Yeah, we don't finance those things either.

i remember that thread too, LOL..without pointing fingers of who said what, what clearly looked better was what rent from said child would mean to (you), a vacation, new carpet, furniture, etc.
