I have read that all adults needing 8 hours of sleep is actually false.

Most adults need between 7-8 hours of sleep to function that their best.

What is your magic number?

My alarm is set for 6 am but I only use it in the winter when it's still dark at 6 am. During the summer, I'm already awake because of the sun. If school was held in the summer and not the winter, I wouldn't need the alarm at all.

I can't sleep in either, but unlike you I wake up ready to go. If stay up too late and do not get enough sleep it hits me later in the day. On weekends I tend to stay up too late and then need an afternoon nap.

He'll be asleep within seconds of his head hitting the pillow, even with numerous "distractions".

The best thing I did to stop myself from staying up too late was getting the TV out of the bedroom.

I have absolutely refused to have a television in any bedroom in our house. We have two televisions, both downstairs in our family room -- one is used to watch movies and the other is hooked up to the kids' game system (which is actually broken right now so I need to make a decision about replacing it or getting rid of the second TV). I don't even like sleeping in hotel rooms with TVs, but that is hard to avoid.

This is going to sound terrible. We are a household of 2 with 5 TVs. It's not that we are constantly watching TV, its just that we like to watch it in different locations.

Just as bad. DH just bought me a laptop computer for Mothers's Day. With that we will also have 5 computers. Quite a change from 12 years ago when the 5 of us shared one.

I have friends with TVs in every room, including the laundry room and the kitchen. Not my thing, but hey, whatever works.

We are also a one computer, no internet access at home family.

My children explain to their friends that it is because we are Amish.

I hate to have tv's in any of the bedrooms, too.
