I have read that all adults needing 8 hours of sleep is actually false.

Most adults need between 7-8 hours of sleep to function that their best.

What is your magic number?

That is a pretty broad claim that you can always know what your children are watching in their own rooms. I know my kids are often home when I am not home; they are sometimes even up when I am asleep. I do not shelter my children inappropriately, but I do not believe that it is appropriate for a young child to have full access to whatever is available on television. My three year olds did not watch television at all; my almost-eighteen year old has watched pretty much whatever he wants to watch for the last two years. There is a pretty broad developmental spectrum in between three and eighteen, and over the course of that period we certainly introduced them to good and wholesome material, believing that getting familiar with that first and only would help them recognize and reject trash and inappropriate material when they were finally exposed to that.

You don't check on your children if they are in their rooms for awhile? You don't ask what they are watching or just stop in at random times to see what they are watching?

No, I just neglect them.

Not really.
I know what my children watch and I am not naive to believe that they might turn to a show that I might deem as not appropriate but it is going to happen whether I am sitting right with them in the living room, in my room, in their room of if they are at a friends house in front of parents or not.

Do you think that those things make it such that they couldn't still watch something that they shouldn't (if my kids had tv's in their rooms, which they don't, so we're good)?

I think I figured out what you meant to say here, and honestly, I'm quite surprised that your kids would have the nerve to turn the tv to inappropriate
