So you do use time out--the toy/computer is put in time out. You just don't use that phrase. I don't see what the correlation between time out and spanking is though.

I never meant to imply that my kids went willinging into a time out. Far from it. Erica especially would stomp up the stairs, screaming all the way, ending with the slamming of the door and kicking the wall or throwing stuffed animals. Screaming into her pillow and punching it were other favorites.

Okay, so I have been watching Savannah to see when she acts out.

In this whole thread, I've lost track of how old Savannah is. She's almost 3, correct? Has she started "I can't do/find it" yet? That's coming as well. 3 is old enough to have some autonomy yet young enough to look back and want to be babied as well. Sometimes both at the same time. Those times that she acts out when your helping Kaden, it could be because, in her mind, she's the baby and you're supposed to be helping her, not her big brother. During homework time, maybe her doing "homework" (pre-school workbooks, coloring, cutting and pasting magazine pictures) with Kaden will make her feel part of the group and more "grown up". I wqrn you though, that can make homework time take longer because you have to divide your attention between the 2 of them.

That was Dylan. He was so funny when he did them. He would stop the tantrum, carefully get down on the floor, and then continue. The first time he threw himself onto the floor, he bumped his head. So after that, he started to get down onto the floor very carefully. Erica always had her tantrums in private. She hated to be noticed. All I had to do to stop her tantrums was to tell her that people were watching. Funny, I don't remember Joy or Angela ever having any. Probably because Erica and Dylan were more memorable.

LOL, that reminds me of a time when dd was all of 2 years old and I made the mistake of singing in the street. She asked me to stop, and when I asked why, she said very gravely, "Mommy, there are PEOPLE here."
